NOTE: The default time zone for this site is Aust WST (GMT+8) unless you set your own preference in your profile.

The image above was created using Comic Life (BETA) from Plasq and captured images from within Second Life. This sort of combination offers a wide range of possibilities for documenting inwolrd activities as well as using inworld production to generate other creative and documentary materials.  Cross-media possibilities abound.

The Lounge is Open
by Kim FLINTOFF - Wednesday, 11 July 2007, 09:12 AM

HI everyone,

I've a few days break here in Hong Kong between the ICT2007 conference that's just ended and the IDEA2007 World Congress that starts this coming weekend and I've used the time to add a new section to the Ausslers site.  The Community Course Lounge is the area where you can initiate your own discussions, plan activities and generally participate in the group.

This is additional to the overall BLOG and WIKI that are set up and awaiting your input.

I think its useful that we consider a few useful pathways and perhaps get some interested members working on developing some resources.  Some key input could be about:

  • common advocacy documents - how to lobby an institution about using SL (and similar tools);
  • management concerns - what are the issues and what instruments can be used to manage resources and users of Second Life in an institutional setting;
  • exemplar materials for teaching/learning;
  • exemplar materials for research;
  • common/shared inworld resources
  • tools development - objects, scripts, etc
  • other...

I'll leave it with you for a few days to ponder.  I hope to see you in here shortly.

Cheers

Kim

Some information about using the site
by Kim FLINTOFF - Sunday, 17 June 2007, 10:33 AM

Hi all,

The site is slowly growing and I'm sorting out some of the usage issues.

A couple of common mistakes that are happening are:

Registering/Login: The site uses session cookies to track your use - you will need to enable cookies for full functionality.  You can add ausslers.com and drama-education.com as exceptions to your standard cookie rules and you should be OK. (Drama Ed is my main site and Ausslers is a subsection)

Blog Entries - should generally be set to let the world see them.

Calendar Entries - Most public events should be listed as SITE events so everyone can see them - User events can only be seen by the individual creating them.

I'll soon set up structures that allow us to expand the site activities and organise better discussions, etc

Currently we have a global blog, a calendar, a Wiki, a few resources with useful links, and some RSS feeds.

I'm happy to receive feedback about any functionality or any issues you've had with accessing the site.

See you at the Decks on Monday night.

A quick site update
by Kim FLINTOFF - Tuesday, 22 May 2007, 07:21 PM

Hi All,

I've had a chance today to dabble with the site - I've installed a theme - it needn't be permanent (and probably won't be if I can't find the funny little glitches that seem to evident).

I think it looks quite good at the moment - but as I said there are a couple of little formatting errors - if anyone is a whiz with CSS please feel free to offer some suggestions.
